Make sure to go over page 183!

Read it front to back, and managed to pass the exam on the first try. A very large portion of the test is based on Compensations, Muscle Imbalances, and Corrective Strategies, so make sure that you completely understand page 183. Another tip would be to not spend time memorizing, but instead work to understand the concepts. Very well written textbook, by a reputable company.

Essential for aspiring Personal Trainers

The NASM: CPT course at this present time is arguably the best overall personal trainer program out there.

I just received my book a few days ago, and I'm aspiring to be a personal trainer after years of lifting myself.
I must say I thought I knew a lot before, but my knowledge doesn't even scratch the surface of what is expected of you by the NASM team.
PHENOMENAL book split up into 4 major sections:

+Fundamentals of Human Movement science
+Assessments, Training Concepts, and Program Design
+Nutrition and Supplementation
+Client Interaction and Professional Development

It's a 623 page book (including appendix) and is truly great even for just expanding your knowledge of training alone.

I can't wait to get started, I'm hoping to hit it hard and get it done during my winter break and I'll make an update once I get there.

(Doesn't hurt to mention also that buying the book on amazon is your best bet if you're unsure like me about becoming a personal trainer. If you buy it from NASM they force bundle it with the exam right away which you have to take 180 days after purchase [or upon receiving it, one of the two]. Also the book came in excellent and crisp condition so no worries there!)

Overall: The potential for this book is excellent, can't wait to get started and I will update my progress most likely Mid-January.

Need this for a class, it's a good book. Good information, i'd definitely recommend if you're getting into personal training, and obviously if you're needing to pass the NASM exam.

It's not worth the price. Not even half. The book is made like a used newspaper with a hard cover around it. I'm sure there are millions of books about that theme made nicer and cheaper.

Excellent Source for leaning how to configure Project System

I have read this book cover-to-cover. I recommend it to anyone who is seriously interested in learning how to configure and use the Project System (PS) component of SAP R/3. It is a concise, easy-to-read, and extremely instructive guide to using PS and I believe it should be a MUST-HAVE for anyone who works with the Project System. It employs an approach that I wish were modeled in other books about R/3 configuration.

While reading this book and with a smll bit of prior knowledge about PS, I was able to configure a project from scratch, including related configuration work in the IMG. It is the best source for an R/3 product that I have encountered and having taught SAP R/3 Configuration for 8 years and taken over 63 days of SAP Americas' R/3 training, I think this says a lot.

I wish there were books like this about such topics as variant configuration, SCM, SNC, and APO: it would have made it a lot easier for me to have learned about configuring these products.

Caveat: I do not know how this book would be for someone who has never worked with R/3 but I also do not think anyone interested in the Project System would be in that situation.

Very Dissapointed from a user perspective

As a user of PS i was very dissapointed in this book and I would not recommend it to anyone with limited knowledge or wanting to learn how to use PS from a user perspective.

The project builder which I believe is one of the main components of PS only receives a cursory look in the book.The building of a WBS structure showing hierarchies etc had no suitable examples and was only briefly touched on.

This is a nice handbook for somebody who wants fast answers to common questions. The best part is how the scenarios are covered, that let you understand more about PS. Also the configuration part is very interesting. This is not a handbook of how to use the basic of PS, this is about how to do advance configurations and how PS relate whit the other modules.

Author nicely references the code files which allows him to put ...

The book is a comprehensive source of organized knowledge about jQuery. It managed to teach me a couple of things, what I believe is the most important characteristic of technical book. Reading this book really allowed me for mastering my jQuery skills a little bit more.

Author is using casual language across the book. There is an issue of this casual style going too far in some cases, which makes it feel unnatural. Luckily that unnatural feeling is not strong enough to prevent from absorbing the content. But the thing that was distracting for me is chapters order. For example chapters Animating in jQuery and Using jQuery Effects are separated by Advanced Event Handling which breaks the logical flow. This forced me to jump around chapters a little bit. But this is only a preference and I'm sure it will not be an issue for everybody.

Every piece of knowledge is accompanied by dedicate samples - sometimes even to many of them. On several occasions we will see repetitive examples which show the same technique without visible added value between them. Still the accompanying code is very well organized. Author nicely references the code files which allows him to put only the most relevant source lines into the book, without depriving reader of an easy way for trying the solution he is reading about

References plug-ins. Lack of explanation.

I run a website development team and we do "book club" where we pick a technical book and read a chapter a week and get together to discuss. This is the book we're going through now and it's pretty unanimous that this book isn't very good! I really mean that! The author's writing style and use of excessive exclamations is really annoying! That's just a minor annoyance though compared to the technical deficiencies in the book. The basic M.O. of the author is to introduce a topic, and then reference some plug-in written by some other developer that does that function, and his "examples" show how to write the tag to reference that .JS file and "hey look!... it works!" The book is really missing any description of HOW it works, although he does include references to links to follow to go find out how it works. There are often various "magic" variable names that appear in the example code but there is no explanation of them, or even any reference that they are special variables needed by the plug-ins.

In one section, he did lay out the basic pattern for the code to be done, but then in his example he did it a different way. He doesn't mention that he's doing it a different way, you as the reader just have to figure that out yourself. Combined with all the typo's in the example code, it's clear that this is an initial release of a book and not a cleaned up version. Our book club group often ends up laughing at how bad it is.

We are managing to get some value out of the book though, just by challenging each other to find and point out all the flaws. However, that's not what we're looking for in a technical book.

Boxed set offers bonus portfolio of more photos

I bought this boxed set as a gift for my daughter, first for her to read and second for her to have to read to her children as they become old enough. I have reviewed each volume as it was published.
The boxed set includes a small portfolio of more pictures of the sort that grace the pages of each volume, which makes buying the boxed set, now that it is available, a better idea than purchasing each book separately. As I have wondered about this series and at least one other, I don't see this as truly YA genre. I mean, yes, intelligent 'tweens and teens can read and love it, but it is, overall, pretty heavy and heady stuff. In short, this is as much for adult fans of alternate reality/history as it is for its purported target demographic. Buy it, you'll love it.

I would like to comment on the quality of the books themselves

I recently purchased this boxed set of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children for myself. I am excited to finish these before the movie comes out. I don't want to review the writing as I am no expert but, I do want to say that I am thoroughly enjoying myself with these books. I would like to comment on the quality of the books themselves. Over my years as a reader I have found the quality of books themselves declining. Most often the pages are either thin and flimsy or rough and grainy. It has been years since I have seen a book with evenly cut pages! this set of books is beautiful! The quality of the paper is wonderful and the pages are cut perfectly I know i will enjoy these fooks for years to come. They are a wonderful addition to my home library!

A very good set of books

I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed reading these books. I read the set in 4 days, I enjoyed it that much. Well written, entertaining and well paced. Mr. Riggs was able to suspend my disbelief with interesting characters, entertaining situations, colorful descriptors and comic timing. While I am much older than what I assume the target audience is, the story was able to capture my interest and hold it. I would recommend this set to young, old and in between, alike. I am betting, you won't be disappointed.
